Athletes Still Garnering the Gold for 2023 SEA Games

With only two days left in the 2023 SEA Games, athletes from eleven nations continue to bring glory to their respective countries with world-class performances. As of this morning, Vietnam has a total of 295 medals followed by Thailand with 246 and Cambodia with 230.

Over the next two days, the final 93 gold medals will be won by Southeast Asian athletes in sports including volleyball, weightlifting and hockey. So far, Vietnam leads the gold medal tally with 107, followed by Thailand with 91 and Indonesia with 69 gold medals. Cambodia follows closely behind with a total of 65 gold medals, gaining six gold over the weekend with wins in martial arts, wrestling and traditional boat racing.

This year’s SEA Games is an historic event, being the first time in the games’ 64-year history that Cambodia has been able to act as the host nation. For the first time in history, the host country has offered free tickets to all sporting events, in addition to providing free room and board to foreign athletes and free broadcasting rights of the games.

Following the closing of the SEA Games, Cambodia will switch focus to hosting the 12th ASEAN Para Games from June 3-9, during which over 2,000 disabled Southeast Asian athletes will compete for the gold.
